In addition to his artistic accomplishments, Bill Buchman is a top flight jazz pianist whose style covers a wide range and crosses over the usual borders. Bill’s group called “Bill Buchman’s Art of Jazz with Nancy Pastore performs at various venues in the Tampa Bay area and features top players.
The Art of Jazz has performed at THE STARLITE ROOM, THE BLUE ROOSTER, BURNS COURT CAFE, CAFE IN THE PARK, THE RITZ CARLTON VERONA ROOM, THE GATOR CLUB, THE VENICE ART CENTER, FANDANGO, etc..
Bill studied piano at the New England Conservatory of Music and received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees there. Bill studied for many years with Jaki Byard and Ran Blake, two leading exponents of jazz and Third Stream music. In more recent times recently Bill has been studying and performing with master drummer and composer Emmanuel Abdul Rahim. He has played with jazz greats such as Jo Jones (of Count Basie fame), Bobby Hackett, Red Callender, Alan Dawson, Sammy Rimington, John La Porta, Eddie“Lockjaw” Davis, Joe Lee Wilson, John and Lillian Boutté, Per Goldschmidt, Bob Rockwell and many more. Through the years Bill has performed widely in a variety of concerts and venues in Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki, Oslo, and Cologne covering the spectrum from New Orleans jazz, music of the swing era, and boogie woogie to modern contemporary and latin jazz and blues. Bill’s CD, “Out of The Blue” is played on National Public Radio jazz programs throughout the US and was among the top 50 new jazz releases on the “Jazz Week” chart for several weeks in March of 2004.
Bill's other very exciting new group is the ART OF BLUES which he has formed with formidable blues guitarist, Steve Arvey. In January 2014 they gave their first concert at the Venice Art Center which was an immediate sold out hit.. Since then, among other venues, they have performed many times at the House of Blues in Disneyland, Orlando, the Palladium in St, Pete, Fogartyville in Sarasota, etc. They recently did a Live Music Showcase broadcast on WMNF and have made a great new CD, "Art of Blues" available online. Their concerts at the Venice Art Center, the Longboat Key Center for the Arts, and the Longboat Key Education Center have all been very popular.
Bill says, about his music, “For me jazz and blues are forms of art and that’s the level we strive for. Our music is all about joy, spontaneity, warmth, and depth".
